PrestaShop packs compared: the native pack of products, Advanced Pack and Pack Selector

Bundles of different products or boxes of the same item? How PrestaShop’s native pack of products, the Advanced Pack 5 module and Pack Selector differ, with versions, stock and what each one is for.

In short

  • “Pack” means two different things in PrestaShop shops: a bundle of different products sold together, or a box of the same item.
  • PrestaShop’s native Pack of products is a product type for bundles: “a collection of products from your catalog”, with a Pack tab instead of the Combinations and Stocks tabs.
  • Advanced Pack 5 by PrestaModule extends bundles with a discount per product and default combinations. Its Addons page lists PrestaShop 1.7.4 to 1.7.8.8 and a last update in February 2022.
  • Pack Selector is for the other meaning: the same item by the piece, box or pallet, chosen on the single product’s page.

Ask two PrestaShop merchants what a “pack” is and you may get two answers. For one it is a bundle: a camera, a bag and a memory card sold together. For the other it is a box: twelve of the same mug. PrestaShop’s tools are built for the first meaning, which is why the second so often ends up as a workaround. This article compares three options, PrestaShop’s native pack of products, the Advanced Pack module and Pack Selector, and says which meaning each one serves.

We make one of them, Pack Selector. The facts about the others come from PrestaShop’s documentation and the developer’s Addons page, checked on 27 October 2026.

The native pack of products

On the product page introduced in PrestaShop 8.1, you choose a product type when you create a product. The PrestaShop user guide lists four: standard product, product with combinations, pack of products and virtual product. It describes the pack as “a collection of products from your catalog”, and notes that the Pack tab is shown while the Combinations and Stocks tabs disappear.

Good for: bundles of different products, such as kits and gift sets.

Limits for boxes of one item:

  • The pack is a separate product, with its own page and its own place in category listings.
  • The single item’s page does not show that a box exists, or what it saves.
  • With the Combinations tab gone, the pack itself has no combinations.

Advanced Pack 5

Advanced Pack 5 by PrestaModule is a long-standing bundle module on PrestaShop Addons. Its page lists:

  • a discount on each product of the pack, as one of three discount options;
  • a default combination for each product in the pack, with price impacts of combinations;
  • pack stock calculated in real time from the products that make it up;
  • photos and descriptions of the component products in tabs on the pack’s page.

Versions: the page lists compatibility with PrestaShop 1.7.4 to 1.7.8.8 and version 5.2.18, released on 22 February 2022. If your shop is on PrestaShop 8 or 9, ask the developer before you buy.

Good for: richer bundles of different products on PrestaShop 1.7.

Pack Selector

Pack Selector is ours, and it answers the other meaning of “pack”: the same item sold by the piece, the box or the pallet. It does not create bundles of different products.

  • Every package is shown on the single item’s product page, with its price per piece and the saving.
  • The customer chooses how many packages to add; the cart gets the right number of pieces at the package price.
  • A package can have its own price, or be linked to an existing box product such as ABC-12 and use its price and stock.
  • Linked box products can be hidden from the category listings, so the catalogue does not show the same mug three times.
  • In the cart, a customer who added loose pieces is told when the same quantity costs less as packages, and can switch in one click: a cart upsell that lowers the price.
  • Packages can apply to every combination of a product or to one combination only.
  • It supports PrestaShop 1.7.8 to 9.2, with the Classic and Hummingbird themes.

Good for: wholesale and B2B shops whose customers think in boxes and pallets.

Which one fits your shop

  • You sell kits or gift sets: start with the native pack of products; it costs nothing.
  • You need discounts per component on PrestaShop 1.7: look at Advanced Pack.
  • You sell the same item in boxes and pallets: a package selector on the product page, which is what Pack Selector does. We compare all the ways to sell by the box in PrestaShop wholesale pricing.

Questions and answers

What is a pack of products in PrestaShop?

A product type for bundles. PrestaShop’s user guide describes it as “a collection of products from your catalog”. When you choose it, the product page shows a Pack tab and the Combinations and Stocks tabs disappear.

Can I use a PrestaShop pack to sell a box of 12 of the same product?

You can, but it creates another product in the catalogue, with its own page, next to the single item. Customers on the single item’s page do not see the box or the saving unless you link them yourself.

Does Advanced Pack work on PrestaShop 8 or 9?

Its PrestaShop Addons page, checked on 27 October 2026, lists compatibility with PrestaShop 1.7.4 to 1.7.8.8 and version 5.2.18 from February 2022. Ask the developer before buying for a newer version.

Which one should I use?

For a starter kit or a bundle of different items, the native pack, or Advanced Pack on a supported version. For the same item sold by piece, box or pallet, a package selector on the product page, such as Pack Selector.
